Wearable devices haven’t still made the kind of impact that was expected as the wearable innovations made way through various techno expos. The overhyped applications of the wearable technology seem to have died a slow tragic death, resulting in many of the innovators to drop their ideas of creating meaningful wearable’s that could impact the daily business and assist consumers to make better decisions in daily life. Many of the wearable technology failed because either the network connection lacked the robustness to deal with real-life situations or many of them happened to be cumbersome for the users to actually use them daily. Wearable devices were expected to provide the required user experience and the ability for them to run complex applications without any latency.  Recently, even cloud was considered as a solution to provide the required speed and processing requirements, however, the devices failed to provide the expected solutions and it also made the devices much more complicated, expensive and with major data privacy concerns.

For enterprises, it’s an opportunity to find innovative solutions that can define the wearable technology to a new level, improving the authentic approach of wearable devices that they can solve the problems real-time. The integration of wearable technology is inevitable for the enterprises and many of the current technology proliferators are looking to integrate the cloud technology with devices without making any of the structural revolts in the device. In any of the wearable technology, one of the most important parts relates to the data security of the device combined with cloud technology. It becomes imperative for the device makers to understand the requirements of consumers.  A recent study of about 4,000 adults from the UK and US respondents that data privacy is one of the primary concern when dealing with wearable technology with connected cloud it consists of 51 percent of the respondents and while 62 percent of the respondents believed that the data privacy will be a concern so the policies should be implemented to improve the technology of wearable. Most of the wearable devices are connected to the Internet making them susceptible to the attacks, like any other system connected to the internet such as Laptop, PC or tablet.

Wearable devices even lack the required monitoring essential for device security. The devices can act as a gateway for attacks on other devices that are connected to the wearable technology.  Cybersecurity experts have stated that there is little a consumer can do about the security of the device other than just disconnecting it from all the other sources; it’s up to the device manufacturers to integrate the security of the wearable technology.  Many of the enterprises have started investing heavily in the network technology to secure the connection between the device and cloud but any type of security gap can expose many of the wearable devices and also the other consumer devices. Enterprises that manufacture the wearable devices need to openly discuss the security threat concerned with devices, so the consumers can understand the typical security threats concerned with the devices that will be connected to the wearable device. As many of the security threats are crippling the growth of the wearable technology problems such as delayed responsiveness and higher processor requirement to deal with networking issues.

Wearable technology manufacturers are adopting a totally different technique to deal with the above problems. They want to bring the cloud technology closer to the device rather than investing in making the wearable devices to solve the networking challenge. Edge computing offers solutions for the wearable device manufacturers but the security risks of data cannot be overlooked as edge computing is an extended version of cloud computing.  Edge computing will also make the device bulkier to deal rather than making them dynamic. Wearable cloud technology is the new overboard idea for the wearable technology. The wearable cloud is set to make the integration of the devices easier and also reducing the security concerns.   Researchers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham are exploring the concept of wearable personal cloud to create a fully functional cloud technology closer to the device.  The concept was laid down recently by the duo Ragib Hasan and Rasib Khan using the 10 low-cost credit card sized computers called as Raspberry Pi’s installed in the old winter jacket combined with few power banks and remote touch screen displays. The wearable technology actually brings bigger cloud computing solutions on the table creating an ultimate smart device to improve the technology. Using the smart jacket the cloud virtualizations can be implemented that can provide processing technology to many of the wearable devices rather than just relying on the device hardware.

The consumers currently buy most of the wearable devices’ individually making it more expensive. However, the integration of the devices is usually impossible, making them an individual device for a particular task. Using the cloud computing jacket the users will be able to integrate all the solutions together to improve the device functions. The cloud jacket current has around 10 gigabytes of RAM with 32 gigabytes of ROM is also available. The global forecast for the wearable devices is estimated to reach 125.3 million units in 2018 increasing by almost 8.5 percent. The current growing popularity in consumers about the smart watches and greater adoption rate of the wearable technology is all set to touch a CAGR of 11 percent by 2022 almost touching 189.9 million units. The majority of the wearable devices are concentrated in the smartwatch section, while the other device that has made an impact over the next few years is the wearable ear devices that will be driven by the music industry.
