Microsoft collaborates with FedEx to help customers use analytics to improve their supply chain and shipping times. The financial details of the partnership aren’t disclosed yet. Through the partnership, including joint product development, the companies will collect data from the FedEx logistics network and analyze it through Microsoft’s Azure Cloud. FedEx has appointed its first offering, FedEx Surround, to provide real-time analytics to commence supply chain and shipment tracking. This extension of FedEx can collect multiple data through FedEx’s Internet of Things and analyze it through Microsoft’s AI and machine learning systems.

The idea behind the collaboration is to drive precise logistics and inventory management through real-time data analytics and help business planning to deliver predict issues related to delivery such as bad weather, natural disasters, mechanical delays, and incorrect delivery addresses.

“FedEx has been reimagining the supply chain since our first day of operation, and we are taking it to a new level with today’s announcement,” said FedEx CEO Frederick Smith. “Together with Microsoft, we will combine the immense power of technology with the vast scale of our infrastructure to help revolutionize commerce and create a network for what’s next for our customers.”

Both the companies are planning to roll out more products that leverage Microsoft technologies, including Dynamics 365, in the coming months. FedEx Surround’s date of operations will get announced this summer.
