Arm Ltd, the British Technology firm whose chip technology enlightens most smartphones worldwide, released a new generation of technology to take over data centers and artificial intelligence applications ahead of its well-planned USD 40 billion merger with Nvidia Corp.

Arm released a new version of what we call instruction set architecture. It is the most fundamental recipe for a chip that tells about the kind of software it can run. The company brings a significant update to the architecture only once in a decade, and its rival is Intel Corp, a supplier of x86 architecture. It gives power to most of today’s laptops and data center servers.

Arm with the new architecture “V9” aims to counter Intel in mainly two areas: Artificial Intelligence and Security. On March 30, 2021, Arm introduced a concept called “Realms” that will accomplish similar chips’ hardware tasks.

“We see no reason why the Realm technology cannot scale up to provide security in the most high-performance systems that are out there,” Arm Chief Executive Simon Segars said during a news briefing.

The company will pitch in features for artificial intelligence chips for things such as speech recognition and image.

“We’re excited by the prospect of combining with Nvidia and the enhanced engineering capabilities that we’ll be able to bring marrying our pervasive compute platform with their deep, deep expertise in AI,” Segars said.
