At CES 2019, the CEO of Astrocast Fabien Jordan discussed various topics that included IoT and different applications that will affect our daily lives.  The idea of Astrocast differs from the current solution providers that need sensors and edge network for faster data processing.

Astrocast, a nano-satellite and IoT communications network solution provider founded in 2014 by a team of developers at SwissCube. Though over last several years IoT has been a source of major debates at CES but now with Astrocastt the IoT in space changed the concept.

According to the CEO of Astrocast, Fabien Jordan the nano-satellite technology will help in connecting all the IoT devices. Recently Astrocast launched a nano-satellite into the orbit and hopes to launch 64 of them that will help to connect each device on the planet.  One of the examples that were shared said that suppose we install water purifiers all around the world and with simple satellite communication we can monitor each device whether it works to the optimum level. 

It’s important that the satellite communication is being brought in the picture that helps in developing IoT devices network. Only 10 percent of the current earth is covered by the cellular and territorial network. This makes a large part of the earth is not connected with the technology, Nano-satellites will help is developing the underlying technology for a remote location.

Astrocast also revealed that they cannot compete with the existing players in the cities; however, they can be adopted as a backup solution. The current network is fragile and needs the constant maintenance to solve the solution challenges by bringing the battery powered satellite.  The enterprise has launched one and by March 2019 the company is expected to launch the second Nano-satellite. By 2020, we are expected to see more than 20 nanosatellites to help the expansion of the network.
