ARPANET a form of the Internet was first created by the US government as a communication network designed for long distance data-comm. The focus led to innovation in TCP/ IP packet switching protocol for information transfer. The foundation for internet was laid by Sir Tim Berners-Lee on March 1989 for linking and sharing information around the globe.

Data or information has always been a vital piece and connectivity has improved the shared vision but the primary focus has now shifted to security from connectivity. The United States is currently leading the innovation baton for internet and cyber-security closely followed by China.

Most Security experts believe that the World Wide Web that has achieved so much of innovation and made the world a smaller place is because of the openness of the internet. Web during the early nineties was an un-kept and lawless and close to impossible for an average user to make daily use platform. The permission-less architecture that we adopted provided the innovative base for inventors to try new things.

One lesson time and again we have learned that innovation comes from free thought and if we rely on a centralized system for innovations to solve our problems it reduces the chances of the outcome. Same can be applied to the security that it must be built in at the lowest level- the users. The user’s control over their data security could let to better innovation for data protection and reducing data theft online.
