Oracle annual media day’s event just concluded earlier this month offering us with a certain fresh perspective about the cloud and cybersecurity issues affecting every enterprise with an IT system. Edward Screven Oracle’s chief corporate architect had a chat with Dorian Daley, Oracle Executive Vice president and general counsel discussing companies’ customers with the number having touched 400,000 globally with a focus towards cloud and cybersecurity issues and how enterprises should protect their business data.

Here are a few takeaways from the discussion.

1. Enterprise now thinks of cloud a channel that can mitigate the security risks. There has been a general change in the way business perceives security and cloud today. Screven added that A few years ago when we talked to the customers, security was kind of an objection. The argument about the importance of data hasn’t changed, but the perception of cloud and especially cloud vendors has changed.

2. Enterprise is looking for ways that can make the security, not their problem. The increase in security risks has pushed most enterprises towards third-party security providers; now, the security providers are not only responsible for the environment but also the data.

3. Enterprise realizes that cloud vendors provide security functionality that can assist in defending the data from attacks initiated by larger organizations. The focus is more towards the way attacks that are led by larger organizations. Cloud providers develop a single entity based security that secures a minimal set of variations.

4. Cloud providers benefit from the enormity scale that no ordinary business simply do not have. When it comes to securing thousands of assets at a time, it becomes a security nightmare. Oracle concentrates its resources in developing a secure environment that prevents threats for making any dent in the infrastructure.

Businesses are spending money on people instead of technology. Most of the tech experts react to phishing attack with manual technology of isolating the threat, making the process unreliable as the threat has affected the sensitive data. Most of the people that are running sensitive data are overwhelmed by the work of patching and securing data. With most of the security issues are due to human error, automation can make the security a complete solution.
