Google has released a new tool, COVID-19 research explorer, to help researchers and individuals traverse through a trove of coronavirus journals, papers, and articles. It is an AI-powered tool that aims to deliver the correct and meaningful information in response to COVID-19 pandemic.
Google’s AI team observed that there is a sufficient set of information available to questions such as, “What are the symptoms of Coronavirus?” or “What are the current positive cases in the country?” However, the search engine fails to deliver accurate results when it comes to more pointed questions from researchers. Google’s COVID-19 research explorer helps in solving the problem. The database of the tool contains over 50,000 journal articles and research papers related to coronavirus.
Generally, it is difficult to yield accurate results based on a simple keyword. Therefore, Google uses Natural Language Understanding (NLU) based search before answering the queries. NLU is a subset of Natural Language Processing that focuses on even the smallest context of the query while trying to derive the meaning of the question and define distinct insights.
This Google’s new tool is elaborative in nature as it not only suggests the relevant papers related to query but also highlights the right part from the answers. The semantic search is powered by Google’s popular BERT language model.
