Retool Inc., a low-code development platform for business software, has officially launched Retool Workflows. This automation tool aims to simplify the developer experience by allowing a code-first approach and seamless integration with monitoring and maintenance tools.

Retool Workflows offers developers a rapid solution for prototyping and building periodic jobs, custom alerts, and information management tasks. Using a user-friendly visual interface enables extracting, transforming, and loading data based on triggers, providing a wide range of coding tools for streamlined development. It combines a visual canvas for speed and clarity with the customizability and power of code building blocks so that users can jump right into software workflows.

“No- and low-code automation tools often do more harm than good,” said Jamie Cuffe, a Retool Product Lead. “Automating your business can unlock a world of possibilities, but building isolated, one-off automations is not the answer. Teams eventually struggle to maintain and scale their creations without developer assistance. Retool Workflows directly addresses both challenges.”

Workflows integrate seamlessly and are directly callable from user interfaces. It’s a versatile tool, enabling the creation of various experiences, such as support dashboards and response centers, as stated by the company. Retool Workflows offers extensive connectivity, capable of retrieving data from various sources. These include local databases, third-party services, or any system with an application programming interface (API). Notable integrations encompass MySQL, Snowflake, Slack, GitHub, Jira, and Salesforce. Utilizing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence capabilities, it seamlessly integrates with OpenAI LP’s large language models and image generators.

The main objective of Workflows is to enable developers to utilize their toolkit. Developers can leverage their familiar languages and tools directly within the interface, benefitting from native JavaScript, SQL, and Python support. Additionally, they can import libraries as they would in any typical development environment.

Workflows offer a comprehensive debugging feature, providing access to workflow and block-level logs. This includes historical data, simplifying the process of understanding and addressing errors. Developers can be notified via email or Slack when there is custom error handling in the code.

Cuffe said, “We help developers minimize development and maintenance time, so they can build more automations right from the start. And we provide a central hub for automations that can be securely monitored, maintained and scaled over time.”

Retool can claim a sizable number of commercial customers who have used its software to automate software solutions for everything from security alerts to AI-powered customer support. Key companies like Airbnb Inc., Kaplan Inc., and American National Bank have seamlessly integrated Retool Workflows into their toolkit, leveraging its capabilities to automate various business processes.

Joel McLean, Director of product growth at real estate company RE/MAX, said, “We needed an efficient way to translate product data in our warehouse into timely, insightful reporting in Slack. With Retool Workflows, my team can easily configure our resources in one place and focus only on writing the logic unique to our business.”

Retool secured a significant USD 45 million in funding at a valuation of USD 3.2 billion in July 2022. Simultaneously with the launch of Workflows, the company persistently empowers enterprises and developers with essential tools to automate large-scale business processes and software.

Retool Workflows is officially available, featuring a free plan crafted to help developers kickstart automation projects instantly. Businesses can deploy it as a secure cloud-hosted service or self-hosted solution.
